Concept siteStilwell Enterprises is a fictional company. This is a hireful demonstration careers site. Jobs, figures and benefits are made up.
Life at Stilwell

Proper work, done properly, with people who have your back

We are a UK contractor of about 4,200 people (fictional figure) working on schools, hospitals, homes and rail from five regional offices.

How we work

Our values, in site language

Build it right

Measure twice. Ask when you are not sure. If the drawing is wrong, say so. We would rather fix it on paper than in concrete.

Look out for each other

Stop work if it is unsafe. Notice when someone is quieter than usual. Every site has trained mental health first aiders and a welfare cabin worth sitting in.

Leave it better

For the town, the client and you. That means local hiring, cutting waste and making sure you leave each project with a new skill.

Our people

Stories from site

These are placeholders. Real stories need a first name, role, photo and written consent from each colleague, and a date so they can be reviewed.

Story placeholder

First name and role from the customer. Their route from apprentice to site manager.

A colleague in a hi-vis vest laughing with a teammate over a mug of tea in a site office, programme charts on the wall.

Story placeholder

First name and role from the customer. How flexible starts made the return work.

Story placeholder

First name and role from the customer. What it is like to split time between site and office.

Film

A day on site

The film itself is a placeholder: a two-minute day-in-the-life film from a live site. It must have captions and a transcript, and audio description where the visuals carry meaning. It should not autoplay.

Inclusion and belonging

Construction should look like the towns it builds

Our industry has not always been welcoming to everyone. We are working to change that on our own sites, starting with the basics.

  • Staff networks for women in construction, LGBTQ+ colleagues, neurodivergent colleagues and armed forces veterans, each with a sponsor on the leadership team.
  • PPE that fits, in a full range of sizes, and clean, separate welfare facilities on every site.
  • Flexible start times where the work allows, and part-time and job-share roles in every team.
  • Reasonable adjustments throughout recruitment and in work, with no need to explain why.
  • A zero-tolerance approach to banter that is really bullying, with a confidential way to report it.

Fictional content for the concept. A real site would only list networks and commitments the customer confirms.
